Yoga

You could say I was born into yoga. My father was a yoga instructor, so yoga has been part of my life from a very early age. After graduating as a psychodynamic therapist and opening my practice, I soon realized that it would be wonderful for my clients to have access to yoga as well. This led me to pursue yoga teacher training and begin teaching yoga to my clients.

Yoga for Everyone

It didn’t take long before non-clients who were interested in yoga classes started reaching out. After renting many different spaces, the first yoga studio in Bodegraven was eventually established. What started as a small studio where I taught every class myself for the first ten years grew into a large studio where I began training other instructors and, together, we offered classes five days a week. In April 2020, I sold the large studio and began focusing on online and (semi-)private yoga lessons. In 2024, I moved to Texel, but my yoga classes are still available online. Once I find a new location, I will offer “live” classes again.

Over the years, I have developed my own unique style and incorporate my knowledge as a psychodynamic therapist and mindfulness trainer into my classes. My great passion is anatomy, and I’m known for being able to teach yoga to everyone. It doesn’t matter what limitations you may have; I lovingly adapt yoga poses to suit your needs, whether they’re physical, mental, or emotional.

In the past 17 years, I have completed numerous yoga trainings, teacher trainings, workshops, and additional anatomy courses. I am educated in and have extensive experience with power yoga, ashtanga yoga, vinyasa flow yoga, yin yoga, hatha yoga, restorative yoga, yin/yang yoga, meditation, mindfulness, and yoga nidra. You’ll find all of these styles reflected in my yoga classes.

Yoga Styles

The following yoga styles are available in my online and private yoga/meditation classes:

Power/Vinyasa Flow Yoga

As the name suggests, Power Yoga is a strong and dynamic form of yoga and the Western version of Ashtanga Yoga. While some see yoga as graceful and elegant, Power Yoga takes it a step further, two steps in fact. Power Yoga is exciting and intense, perfect for anyone who loves a challenge and wants to move. It’s definitely not about navel-gazing, but rather more sweaty than spiritual. Power Yoga focuses on movements that engage the whole body, just as nature intended. After a few weeks of Power Yoga, you’ll feel fitter, more energetic, and calmer. Vinyasa Flow is the gentler sister of Power Yoga. In my online classes, I make sure everyone can participate—those who want a challenge and those preferring a slower pace with Vinyasa Flow options.

Yin yoga (Stress Relief)

Take it easy and restore your energy levels after a long day at work. Yin Yoga focuses on opening and relaxing the body, allowing for healing and renewal. It’s an intensely meditative style consisting mostly of seated or lying poses, which help restore and make your connective tissue more flexible and supple. Suitable for pregnant individuals and those with injuries or limitations.

Yin-Yang yoga

Yin-Yang classes combine the dynamic movements of Yang (Vinyasa Flow) with the calming poses of Yin Yoga. Dynamic, flowing movements from Power and Vinyasa Flow yoga are alternated with restorative Yin poses. The active part helps release blockages and improves circulation, followed by relaxation and recovery.

Meditation including Yoga Nidra

Meditation has become essential in today’s society. The hustle and bustle of daily life makes our minds busy, our bodies tense, and our emotions chaotic. I see meditation as mental housekeeping. Regular clearing and cleaning brings relaxation, peace, and recovery, helping you maintain calm in everyday life. A key part of the meditation classes is Yoga Nidra. Yoga Nidra translates to ‘psychic sleep’; the body sleeps, but the mind stays alert. All senses withdraw except hearing. It’s a systematic method for achieving complete physical, mental, and emotional relaxation. In Yoga Nidra, we are in a state between sleeping and waking, allowing the psyche to access insights that would otherwise remain hidden. It also provides very deep relaxation: 45 minutes of Yoga Nidra is as restorative as 3 hours of sleep!
