For trauma, I work with the following forms of therapy.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an effective method for processing traumatic memories. EMDR works by actively engaging the working memory while processing traumatic memories. During an EMDR session, the client is asked to recall a specific painful or emotional experience, while at the same time paying attention to external stimuli, such as following moving lights, listening to sounds, or feeling tactile pulses. These stimuli activate the working memory, thereby distracting the brain from the intense emotional charge of the memory. By combining these processes, the intensity of the traumatic experience is reduced, and the memory becomes less overwhelming. This increases the ability to let go of the past and experience greater calm in daily life.
