Somatic Experiencing

Recovery from stress and trauma through the body

Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a body-oriented approach for processing stress and trauma. Developed by Dr Peter Levine, this model is based on the idea that impactful or overwhelming events can leave traces in the nervous system. By involving the body in the recovery process, SE helps to gradually release stored tension and stress

How Does Somatic Experiencing Work?

Rather than revisiting painful details or memories extensively, SE focuses on what is happening in your body in the present moment. Together with a therapist, you learn to recognise subtle signals of tension, emotions, and relaxation. By taking small, safe steps, your body is given space to naturally discharge unprocessed experiences.

  • Recovery at your own pace: You decide how deeply you wish to go and what you want to share.
  • Safety and control: Sessions are tailored to your boundaries and needs.
  • Practical tools: You learn techniques to experience more calm, resilience, and connection with yourself.

Why Choose Somatic Experiencing?

  • Increases trust in your body and your own capacity for recovery.
  • Helps regulate stress, anxiety, and restlessness without forcing.
  • Supports the processing of trauma in a gentle and respectful manner.
  • Suitable for people who prefer not to talk in detail about what happened.
  • SE can also be offered online by the therapist.
